A piece of Mexico in NJ
It all started by with Arturo Ortegas’ desire to provide authentic Mexican cuisine to the Mexican population of Passaic, NJ -at that point only the popular street sandwich called “Cemitas”. The word got out within the community “Theres a place that has cemitas just like at home!” A feeling that all immigrants can relate to when finding that magical spot.
Soon people from all cultures started to visit. Some had visited Mexico in the past & others had never but wanted to experience the most authentic representation of the culture in New Jersey.
Start of our business
The first “La Fortaleza” opened it’s doors in Passaic, NJ in 2001. Due to immense success & an influx of people who visited the restaurant from far away for our famous cemitas, we opened a larger location in Garfield, NJ in 2011.
Long lines soon would be the first indicator that we were doing something right! In October 2019 we opened our third and largest restaurant in Clifton, NJ. All of our three restaurants are dedicated to providing each customer with an authentic Mexican experience in each visit.
Our philosophy
Our philosophy is simple: To be a place of remembrance to Mexican’s away from home & a place of cultural exploration for the world at large. Our customers may explore Mexico & all its beauties without leaving the country in our restaurant -and know that they are getting an authentic experience each time.
We are open for franchising
